We apply makeup with Jane Iredale, a mineral line that sits well on skin rather than sitting on top of it, so the finish photographs cleanly and holds through a long evening. Whether you are getting ready for a gala, a graduation, an engagement shoot, or a night out, your artist matches to your skin tone in natural light and builds coverage only where you need it. Prefer to learn the technique yourself? Book the application with a lesson, and we will teach you the steps on your own face.

  • Jane Iredale mineral makeup, matched to your skin tone in natural light
  • A thirty-minute application, or sixty minutes with a hands-on lesson
  • A photography-friendly finish that holds through an event

Shade Matching, Technique and the Lesson Option

Every application starts with prep, since makeup is only as good as the skin underneath it. Your artist cleanses, hydrates, and gives the moisturizer time to absorb before anything else goes on, because foundation applied to still-wet skin will separate by hour three. Then we match your shade in daylight rather than under bulbs, checking along the jaw and down the neck. Undertone is where most self-matched foundation goes wrong, and Jane Iredale’s mineral formulas give us enough range to correct for cool, warm, and neutral skin without the shade looking like a mask at the hairline.

From there, we build the application to your face and your event. We place coverage where it is actually needed rather than blanketing the whole face, so freckles and texture stay visible and the result reads like better skin instead of makeup. Contour, blush, and highlight follow your bone structure, and we build the eye look to suit your lid shape, since a cut crease that looks incredible on a deep-set eye disappears entirely on a hooded one.

If you want a bolder eye, ask about adding eyelash extensions or a lash lift so the eye finishes without heavy liner. If you book the sixty-minute lesson, we slow the whole thing down, hand you the brushes, and have you do one side yourself while we coach.

Makeup That Holds Up

An Iowa City event calendar is not kind to makeup. August and September weddings mean humidity that breaks down anything too emollient, while December and January bring dry indoor heat that makes foundation cling to every flake. We adjust primer and setting for the season and tell you which one you are fighting on the day. If you are going from an outdoor ceremony to a heated reception, we build for the harder of the two conditions and send you with a blot plan.

For weddings, graduations, and formals, book two to three weeks ahead during the spring and fall rush, and schedule a trial if the look matters. Our bridal hair and makeup team handles wedding party timelines, including on-location work. It can coordinate your makeup appointment with a relaxing facial earlier in the week so your skin is at its best. If your event includes hair, book both together so the styling happens first and the makeup is not disturbed.
